‘Aerial Abstraction’ 2015

Exploring the unseen and obscured sights of the world, my final collection is inspired by aerial perceptions. A recent skydiving experience heavily influenced the motivation for this topic, revealing to me the beauty of the landscape from a rare viewpoint. My collection considers the splendour of aerial photography, revealing both its structured and organic forms, along with its colours, patterns and finer details. Experimenting with a variety of surface treatments, manipulation techniques and mark making, enhanced with delicate embroidery and unusual embellishment, has enabled me to create a contemporary interior surface collection suited to current and upcoming trends. Furthermore, the combination of traditional textile fabrics and unconventional materials, such as patinated copper, has enabled me to create a unique array of work.
